WHAT'S NEW ON THE FAXIAN SITE?
New as of 19 Aug 2005:
Have now been through the Sri Lanka section and homogenised it with the others. Next step is to do a final edit of the whole thing before giving it to Tim and Peter. Have re-established contact with our editor at Penguin India, Karthika, and requested an extension to 31 October 2005.
New as of 2 Aug 2005:
Apologies to everyone for the long silence. I had to finish a big paper for a publication and also a small one for a conference in China in July. Spent two weeks in China and returned on the 15th of July.
After working on Faxian for about a week now, the first draft is more or less finished. Have to touch up the Sri Lanka section and add some of the notes.
The next stage is to revise the whole translation to make it as presentable as possible for Tim and Peter to read, and also to work on the introductory material.

Yesterday I tried viewing the site from an Apple Macintosh, and found that many of the pages that appear correctly on a PC do not appear right on a Mac. I apologise for that if anyone has a Mac. One sees the code used to create the page rather than the page itself; something is preventing the code from being executed. If I can find out how to correct this I shall, and if anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

Entire table of contents added for new draft translation. Also, Part IV, on Singhala (Ceylon, Sri Lanka), which I translated (very roughly) last summer, has now been added to the site. This is nine new sections (4A-4I). It needs a lot of work.
Text and Translation:
The translation includes a chapter-by-chapter pinyin version of Legge's translation (the first page you come to), with links to see Legge's original version (with original spelling) and Giles' translation. The link in the right section of the page lead to the notes, whether by Legge, Zhang Xun, RKH or SKC. Links on the left section of the page are to different parts of the page, other chapters, or the table of contents.
Chinese text:
The digitised Chinese text is added up to chapter 12. Scanned images of the entire text, taken from Legge's translation, are also available from the Faxian Home page.
Zhang Xun's notes:
The notes of the Chinese annotator Zhang Xun have been added to the links through chapter 7. (See Bibliography)
